New Job!

I have a new job! Very proud to be working for Origin Publishing as an Art Assistant for Knit Today and The World of Cross Stitching. YAY. Below is my job interview project - brief was to design 4 pages of a small A4 supplement advertising SMC Select's new yarns. Can't wait to start!

Britain Britain Britain

William and Kate are absolute legends, 21st Century Royalty that are definitely going to change the face of the Royal Family.
Be expected to see many similar re-makes of the dress, lace will probably swan into all the high street shops. Beatrice and Eugenies' 'intriguing designs' as the BBC describes it, are a little shocking. What on earth is all I can say. Also, Princess Diana's looks are still evident within the family.

I love Britain. I also would like to be a Princess and have a wedding similar to this one, thank you please.

Inspirational Pulication

Along with my prints I designed and created a small A5 publication that depicts my inspirations and concept methodology. Inspired by Paul Smith - You Can Find Inspiration in Anything and Todd Selby - The Selby is in Your Place, using features within my personal space I produced illustrations of each feature, inspiration words and and mood board. The book also includes inspirations from other creatives, concept stores and artwork.

The aim of the book is to depict what inspires me as a designer and where my inspirations derive from.

Final Design, Product and Placement

I received my prints back from the printers but the printer man obviously couldn't do his job properly and they did not look like my designs. Humpf. So, I shall be printing them onto cotton cushion covers and jersey crew neck tees using heat transfer paper and the heat press.. hopefully I shall get my shoot done in time before hand in!

Birds and Botanics

A series of prints inspired by Victorian collections, Botanical Illustrations and Victorian interiors.

My prints will initially be applied to t-shirts and cushions as a sample. The prints can be extended and applied to various other products to extend my lifestyle brand.

Film Film Film Film

Saville Row have collaborated with artist Quentin Jones to produce an animated film to accompany their S/S 10 collection.

The collection was inspired by a set of photographs taken back in 1930s of the The Duke of Windsor on holiday in Majorca. E.Tautz has given the collection a sense of humour- part of the concept is English men enjoying themselves in the Mediterranean.

The film communicates the quirky English eccentricity of the collection, and was showcased in the Saville Row offices along with

tea and cakes offered to the guests.

By creating a film to accompany a collection, it helps potential buyers and customers understand the concept of the collection and not just understand the 'image' of collection, but the mood of it too. Music and moving imagery can help 'set the scene' and make a collection much more than a collection, but a character with history and meaning.

Patchwork Pillow

Since my nan taught me how to knit (a while back now!) I hadn't really put my new craft to use. So, I decided to knit a few squares and sew a patchwork pillow out some old fabrics I had lying around. Inner cushion £1 from Wilkos, you can't go wrong.

Design + Realisation

Part of a design and making project based on the concept of the fashion brand Junky Styling- renewing old clothing and recycling fabric to create something new.

I created a dress and a shortened kimono inspired by the Pop Art movement, focusing on the artist Roy Lichtenstein. I researched his artwork and drew up designs using the same lines, shapes and colours as he did, developing as I went along. I had to reflect his artwork through fashion and communicate it through colours and lines. This project improved my designing skills.

Poptopia!

My Art Foundation Final Major Project was a three-piece menswear collection influenced by graffiti art and urban streets. I produced three jersey hoodies all with surface decoration: using screen printing, top stitch, reverse applique and fabric manipulation.

Along with this I created two research sketchbooks, a digital illustration for each garment, and a series of five photographs as part of a photoshoot, receiving a Merit.

White Sheet Project

The White Sheet Project was created during my Art Foundation year. The aim was to create an 'unconventional garment' made from white bed sheets. I focused on the british art movement and art nouveau for inspiration whilst I was designing.

We did a few simple photoshoots to capture our garments. I had recently been given a Nikon D40 as a birthday present, so I brought it along and captured this image.  

Printing Patterns

This is a paper dress that was inspired by 1960's paper dresses and the Pop Art movement, focusing on the work of Andy Warhol.

I initially used household items and products, such as food packaging, to work with. Paying specific attention to shapes and lines- logos and graphics on the packaging, I re-worked and screen printed the Butterkist popcorn heart logo.

I played around with possible repetition and various patterns, creating a bold and bright 60's paper dress, Pop Art style.
