Venue

So I did some work experience with Bristol and Bath's Venue magazine. This was mainly processing images, article and page layout, and designing adverts. They asked me to create some advertisements fillers.. taking inspiration from 'Enjoy your week' /days of the week I created a little pants illustration on Illustrator. Printed in issues of Venue now.

Portfolio work...

So, whilst I am currently working as a furnishing fabrics fabric cutter at Jonny Lewis to help me clear my university debts.. I have decided to do a tad more work for my portfolio. This is the first finished page of a trend magazine supplement, focusing and building on my fashion illustration.

Inspirational Pulication

Along with my prints I designed and created a small A5 publication that depicts my inspirations and concept methodology. Inspired by Paul Smith - You Can Find Inspiration in Anything and Todd Selby - The Selby is in Your Place, using features within my personal space I produced illustrations of each feature, inspiration words and and mood board. The book also includes inspirations from other creatives, concept stores and artwork.

The aim of the book is to depict what inspires me as a designer and where my inspirations derive from.

Final Design, Product and Placement

I received my prints back from the printers but the printer man obviously couldn't do his job properly and they did not look like my designs. Humpf. So, I shall be printing them onto cotton cushion covers and jersey crew neck tees using heat transfer paper and the heat press.. hopefully I shall get my shoot done in time before hand in!

Birds and Botanics

A series of prints inspired by Victorian collections, Botanical Illustrations and Victorian interiors.

My prints will initially be applied to t-shirts and cushions as a sample. The prints can be extended and applied to various other products to extend my lifestyle brand.

Company Illustration

An illustration of Company editor Victoria White, for a competition to win freelance work experience with them. I used a mixed media of gouache, pastel, ink and pencil. Freelance illustration is a job that I had never really thought about, maybe it's because the thought of doing my own taxes does not appeal, but I shall consider after this. 

Ornate Birds

For my friend's 21st birthday present she asked me for a drawing of Sparrows. Using black ink and water, I drew two Sparrows sat on the branch of a tree, and framed it in an ornate black 6x4 frame from Paperchase. I love it.. and may do one for myself.

NYC Drawings

The beginnings of my New York diary/blog that I have decided to create. I am going to incorporate illustration with photography, along with text- I will produce it within Indesign and hopefully get it printed as a book when I have the money to spare!

Florence + The Machine

The album artwork, produced for music artist Florence + The Machine's single 'Dog Days', reminds me of an English country village fete: jam, cakes, bunting, face painting, bouncy castles, petting zoo, competitions, coconut shy. It also reminded me of the woodland animal illustrations which I did.

Incorporating illustrations and photography can work well in some cases. I want to try and discover who produced this artwork and view their other work, it will be interesting to see what else the artist has done.

Woodland Animals

I came over all british one day and decided to draw woodland animals out of boredom. Using pen and water I created these very fine line drawings of a fox, owl and squirrel. I want to develop on them one day but I'm not entirely sure what to do just yet.

Postcards

For Part 1 of my Negotiated Studies project I created a pack of 20 postcards as an alternative 'out of the typical tourist trail' 2009 shopping guide for Milan. The concept of the guide is 'inspirational shops'. I researched shops in Milan that inspired me. I produced a guide that recommends shops/stalls/boutiques/events/galleries/markets that I discovered, and drew an illustration of a particular interesting and inspiring product or feature within each of the places.

The idea of the postcards is that readers can use the postcards as a guide but also contribute to the postcard by sending in illustrations of their inspirational places to be featured in the up and coming pack.

Design + Realisation

Part of a design and making project based on the concept of the fashion brand Junky Styling- renewing old clothing and recycling fabric to create something new.

I created a dress and a shortened kimono inspired by the Pop Art movement, focusing on the artist Roy Lichtenstein. I researched his artwork and drew up designs using the same lines, shapes and colours as he did, developing as I went along. I had to reflect his artwork through fashion and communicate it through colours and lines. This project improved my designing skills.

Personal Space = Personal Style

A study of how someone's personal space can express their fashion style and communicate their identity.

As part of my Developing Research project I gathered visual information of bedrooms to style and create a look inspired by each room, depicted by a fashion illustration.

I am intrigued by bedrooms: photos on the walls, books, objects. A bedroom is a description of the person it belongs to, using objects rather than words to describe.

Personal Space = Personal Style

A few illustrations for my Personal Space = Personal Style project. I based the illustrations on my friends but the clothing I drew them in are purely based on colours and mood of the bedrooms.

Illustrations are drawn using gouache, pastel and ink.

Drawing Processes

Learning to draw again after having a whole summer off is pretty difficult. My ability to draw is lost very easily if I don't practice all the time, but when I do practice all the time, I produce drawings that I didn't know I was capable of!

Our first project at university was figure drawing. These illustrations were drawn using pen, gouache and chalk pastels.
